Around 130,000 ha of potatoes are planted in the UK every year, yielding just under six million tonnes with a farmgate value of around £600 million. The introduction of potato blight disease resistant varieties would eliminate or at least substantially reduce fungicide use and could increase UK farm yields by as much as 130,000 tonnes.
Varieties in the demonstration plots include:
- King Edward
- Cara
- Toluca
- Axona
- Maris Piper
- Sarpo Mira
